Biddesden House is a Guinness family home. It was bought by Bryan Guinness (Lord Moyne) and his first wife Diana Mitford in the early 1930s. As Mirabel Guinness points out in her introduction there are often at least twenty people to lunch there. This is not surprising with such a large family: she is the youngest of eleven children who have all grown up there.
The recipes in this charmingly illustrated book show how the whole household is involved in cooking: side by side with those left by the cooks who have run the kitchen—Mrs Green’s ‘Floating Island’, Mr Olley’s Ginger Cake—are recipes introduced by the family.
