Description

John Donne’s poetry is a mine of hidden wit and double meaning. Samuel Taylor Coleridge commented that his poetry was that in which ‘the writer thinks, and expects the reader to do so’. The range of voices he spoke in is broad and varied, from the teasingly comic style of ‘The Flea’ to the thrillingly romantic ‘The Sun Rising’ or the thoughtful reflection and self-examination of the Holy Sonnets, such as ‘I am a Little World’.
